Waiting for the Bear Grass - 2020
Craig Hanson creates pieces that are assembled together using recycled building materials that otherwise would have been discarded, and various species of wood that would have been burned for heat. The objects on display in Waiting for the Bear Grass teeter between representational painting and low-relief sculptural artifact. His current studio practice investigates process-based mixed media works as means to represent of his stream of consciousness. Attempting to materialize a memory that is multisensory, fractured and fluid into a static, wall-mounted work of art. Each work being a moment frozen in time. Like a cross-section of an observed moment that is flattened, simplified and glorified for it’s sensory beauty.
