I spend a lot of my time outside in nature, just observing and contemplating, trying to look at things with fresh eyes. After a night of sleeping outside under the stars, I watch the sunrise, and see the subtleties of light changing across the landscape. I feel the cool, dense air of the morning slip deeper into the treed valleys; instantly catching the warmth of the sun on my skin as it breaks over the eastern horizon. Being present with the day as it unfolds. My current objective in life is to live in a state of intention rather than distraction.
I think of each of these paintings as a visual love letter to the natural beauty that I explore and observe. Using water-based pigments, I capture the fluidity of the natural world through a varied assortment of representational and abstract landscapes. These works are sweet and simple, and highlight the beauty of the physical landscape. The act of making these paintings has been a meditation of gratitude for the land, water, sky, plants, and animals that make our natural world special.
